Egret and another Tower

When we went to get our weekly fish supply I spotted this egret in the yard next door. The one with the house dreamed of living in right on the water, coastal dreaming. The egret was intent on catching something so I slowly got out of the car hoping to get a photo. Just then the egret caught something in a fern. I clicked my camera and saw there was a large lizard wiggling in the mouth of the egret, trying to get free.

The egret tried positioning the lizard so he could eat him. Eventually he swallowed the lizard whole.

The bulge in the egret's throat is where the lizard is now.

I worked on another tower today. It's about fifteen inches tall and maybe three inches in diameter; more narrow in diameter than the others I've made so far. Two circles balance on the tower which hold up another circle in the middle, which holds up one balanced on the top. I make the tower stacking on strip of clay on top of another. When I get to the top some sort of idea comes to me about the top. Hope the circles stay put. Life is a balancing act. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  2. Getting quite the collection of towers there Linda. A couple of the students found them interesting, as have I. Great glaze colors on the confetti one!

  3. Hi Meredith, thanks, they are everywhere here.

Hi Robert, thanks, towers are my new work, the confetti one is underglaze yet to be fired. I hope to have underglaze ones and glazed ones, hoping I can make enough of them to take a photo of them all in a group, hopefully I'll stick with them. Still want to make more baskets and woven baskets and more houses, so much I want to do and not enough time.

  4. Great shots of the egret. I only see them on the other side of ponds or flying overhead.

  5. Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, it was a lucky stroke, I think he was hungry and the fence made him feel secure enough that I couldn't get to him.

Hi Lori, thanks, I'll have to be real careful moving it out of the cabinet, I am my own worst enemy.
