Here are the fern platters. I made these as pairs since the design runs from one to the other. I like the first pair better. Those are slipped with my own colored slips.
For this second pair I've used mostly commercial under glazes; once again the brush marks show more than I wanted. On some larger plates I'll show you tomorrow, the brush marks didn't show. Must be in my technique. Practice makes perfect I guess. Ha.
Here are some tea bag holder, or they could be used for tea lights, spoon rests, ring holders or spice prep dishes.
They're about three and one half inches in diameter. These seem easy to make, but it takes quite some time to sand each one in the nooks and crannies.
Once again I tried the clear satin glaze over one. I'm really liking the subtle sheen of the plain white. Can't wait to make a whole set of white dishes.

ReplyDeleteYes, we too prefer the more subdued colour palette of the first pair of fern leaf plates.
We are not surprised that the small dishes are so time consuming to make. It is so often the case with tiny things.
I use Amaco Velvet UG, and it fired even without showing marks much. The armadillo is sweet. It is one of the many animals I like to make one day. : )

ReplyDeleteHi Midori, thanks, I am using the amaco velvet under glazes. the mottled outcome might be the fact I had some other clay and these might be made with that which distorts the color, I am not going to get that clay again, but I had to use it up before I could get more of the other clay.

ReplyDeleteYour fern platters came out lovely. Seeing them earlier I had no idea how much color they would have as well as the imprinted leaves. They are both great sets, and I imagine you're selling them as sets. Food will look great on either color combo, just different types. The colorful ones would be great piled high with greens, or maybe mashed potatoes.

Wow, you've been a busy bee! I really like the top fern plates - I'm very partial to ferns in clay and the platters would be lovely on any table.

I need to check out your Etsy site...I really like the tea bag holders. I would use them for the tea lites. What do you do with mistakes...can they be melted down or anything like that?
