Trucks were whizzing by at 70 mph beside us. Gary got the tire off and luckily we had Good Sam towing because our jack wasn't tall enough to raise up the trailer. We had to wait on the side of the road for quite some time hoping no one hit us in the rear. We limped to the next town and got another brand of tire because the brand we had wasn't available. If you travel to the Northeast expect to drive on bumpy and rough roads. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

Breakdown
We were traveling along on the highway between Roanoke and Wytheville, Virginia and had just crossed a bridge before mile marker 67. The bridge we crossed over was particularly rough. Someone came alongside us and motioned for us to pull over. We had a flat tire. When you're towing a trailer you don't always feel when one of the wheels is flat. These are brand new tires with less than 3000 miles on them. The tread separated from the rest of the tire. Gary looked at the tire and it had a big gash perpendicular to the tread. Apparently the bridge caused the flat tire. I reported it to the Virginia DOT incident number 2352286.

Glad you are ok
ReplyDeleteYes, glad you're ok. My flat on a trailer happened high in the mountains in the west. I had to herd eight children away from a rattlesnake while my brother changed the tire.
ReplyDeleteAwful. So glad you were not alone and your hubby could help.
ReplyDeleteHi Dennis, thanks, too bad the tire costs over $100.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne, thanks, well that was quite an ordeal herding and the rattlesnake as well. yikes.
Hi Gigi, thanks, I would have been lost without him, when I was single I always had AAA, those lug nuts are too hard to loosen since they tighten them with air wrenches.
What's a travel adventure without a little break-down, which just makes it much more valuable...but I'm sorry you had to spend hours of your vacation by the side of the road.
ReplyDeleteEchoing everyone else. Very glad you are ok - and Joanne's experience gives me the shudders.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are ok and safe. There are a lot of rough roads out here, too. Considering what we pay for gas which includes transportation tax we should have beautiful roads! Hope your vacation is smoother here on out!
ReplyDeleteGood grief that is a spectacular flat tyre! Sometimes good things come from a flat tyre... I met my now husband of 44 yrs when I had a flat tyre and he stopped to help. We had one made of icing and filled with icing flowers on our wedding cake... gosh thanks for reminding me of that, hadn't thought about it in ages.
ReplyDeleteHi Barb, thanks, I guess it could have been worse.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, thanks, never know what can happen while traveling.
Hi Charlene, thanks, yeah where are all the tax dollars going.
Hi Anna, thanks, oh what a wonderful story, would love to have seen that cake.
Glad your OK...do not drive Michigan roads...:(
