On the way home from vacation, after our breakdown, we stopped at a campground in Virginia. As we were driving to our spot I saw all these chickens sitting on this table. Chickens like camping too. Ha.
The guy who had this campsite had folded his indoor outdoor carpets up and placed them on the picnic table. The chickens decided they liked bedding down on them better than their coop. As i walked up they got a little nervous so I called "Here chicky, chicky, chick, here chicky-chicky" and the chickens calmed down and came off of their comfortable roost.
I was able to get a few close up photos.
They thought I threw some grain out for them but I had none. They kept looking anyway.
Chicken feathers are shiny and beautiful, Check out the tail feathers on this guy, they look fluorescent. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
Love it! Brought early morning smiles!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzi, thanks, aren't they so cute; I wonder what the guy thought when he returned to find chicken feathers all over everything, hope there weren't any droppings.
ReplyDeleteChickens in a campground. Love it.
ReplyDeletechickens are so silly, they just assumed you brought food!
ReplyDeleteThey all are pretty, except the handsome ones.
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa, thanks, apparently real close by there was a chicken coop but they liked the campground blankets better.
ReplyDeleteHi Michele, thanks, I think folks who call them to eat call them with the here chicky chicky chick so I was actually fooling them which wasn't quite nice but I wanted to get their photos.
Hi Joanne, thanks, so true, I love their feathers, my photos don't do them justice, up close the feathers were so shiny.
What a hoot...campgrounds sure let the darndest people in...er, chickens! Glad they responded to the call so you could capture their beauty for us!
ReplyDeleteHi Barb, thanks, it was a hoot when we drove by, I couldn't believe it. the campground host said the guy was packing up to leave I would have loved to have been there when he came back and saw all the chickens on his carpets. Ha.
ReplyDeleteChickens camping! Is that like how much dogs just love art shows??
ReplyDeleteI am suggesting taking the chickens on our next trip! LOL!
Hope they gave you breakfast!
Gorgeous critters!
ReplyDeleteLove the chicken pics! Surprised that you would find chickens around a camping site - mainly because I always thought lots of campers have dogs.
ReplyDeleteAwww.
ReplyDeleteWow, those are some beautiful chickens!
ReplyDeleteMy chickens would love to sit on carpets or anything else I put out. I don't think I would take mine camping. I am right over in AL.
ReplyDeletewhen I was a little girl we had a little black chicken that thought she was a dog and would run out to meet us off the school bus - thanks for the reminder :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy, thanks, bet there were a few eggs in the morning but I didn't go back to check, shame on me. Ha.
ReplyDeleteHi Gigi, thanks, aren't they beautiful, who knew the common chicken.
Hi Rian, thanks, you know you are right but the dogs are to be kept on leashes, I think there was a personal residence nearby that kept chickens.
Hi Sue, thanks, aren't they sweet.
Hi Barbara, thanks, I have always wanted to keep unusual breeds of chickens but then I'd have to keep them safe and spend time taking care of them and not sure I am up to that but who knows maybe one day.
Hi Linda, thanks, oh I didn't know that about chickens but it stands to reason that they'd like something soft to bed down on.
Hi Anna, thanks, oh how sweet, and I always knew that animals have much more to offer than we realize, your black chicken is an example of that.
