Sleeping with Frozen Peas

Update this is a better photo to show the true color.

Perhaps you recall the chemical experiments that I tried several weeks ago. Well I was rewarded with at least one good one from this firing. This copper carbonate streaked small vase was brushed with a thick coat of satin clear glaze and the colors are wonderful. And I don't even like green. Well I do like green in plants, in food, but usually not in clothes or in glazes. Mostly because a good green is hard to get. In this case the copper carbonate turned a wonderful green  with small patches of a silvery luster like surface under a buttery satin clear. There's even a touch of wabi sabi with one small fingerprnt of cobalt blue on the top edge.

This is just a small pot and my photos don't do it justice. It might even be one I should have a professional photographer take photos of because I can't seem to get the depth of colors correctly. But last night I didn't get out my photo cube because I ran into the corner of the door between the studio and the kiln room head first and I have a shiner. So last night I was sleeping with frozen peas to keep the swelling down. I'll try to get more photos of the rest of the work today. Lately I feel like a walking accident waiting to happen. First my shoulder, then my knee, now my eye with a black and blue shiner. What's next. Hopefully nothing. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Get well, Linda! So sorry you got dinged on a door. That green under white is gorgeous! Hope you can do it again.

  4. We accidentally discovered a fabulous long term ice pack. Frozen acorns. We made a zippered cloth bag to keep them and they are at the ready in the freezer. The "ice" pack lasts longer than you can stand to use it. Great for 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off.

  5. If you have any photo processing software, just bumping up the contrast a little will help the picture a lot.Good luck with the shiner.

  6. Hi Michele, thanks, I posted another photo which shows the contrast as Dennis was pointing out below. Gary said everyone is going to think he hit me and maybe they'll just come and arrest him but then he said he didn't mind cause he'd get three hots and a cot. Ha.

Hi Joanne, thanks, I'll have Gary look for some acorns, good tip.

Hi Dennis, thanks, I am taking more photos today but as with all pots they are much better in person.

  8. Hope the shiner goes quickly. They always hurt far longer than they should.
I made ice packs out of the water storing crystals used in potting soil. Just put some in a zip bag add water until they can't absorb anymore. Seal and place in freezer until needed. You can push them into any shape to cover aches and pains, and you don't have to sacrifice your peas!
I love the color combo on the vase. I think it would be terrific on one of your towers!

  9. Hi Suzi, thanks, it doesn't hurt that much but it looks terrible, internal bleeding that circled under my eye and I also hit my nose a the same time, but it didn't bruise. I hope I can re-create this color again. I absolutely love that portions look iridescent silver in the middle of the thicker spots. yeah I need to make more towers, maybe a totem tower, it's endless isn't it.

  10. Love that glaze.
And yes, I have used a frozen pea ice pack more times than I can remember.
It sounds as if you really, really need to be wrapped in cotton wool for a bit. You have been battering yourself rather a lot lately.
I hope you are feeling better today.

  11. Hi Sue, thanks, they say most accidents happen at home and for those over 60, one in three will fall, and fall a lot, I need to change those odds, and quickly.
