take a drive in the country you never know what you'll see
a tiger lily in bloom
I have to get under the lily to see the spots well
poison ivy was especially close
to this large tan mushroom couple
one has a skirt underneath
you can see the skirt better in this photo
do you know the name of this mushroom
native butterfly weed along the road
more mushrooms orange in color
lots of greenery along the drive
black cohash in bloom
a stand of rudbeckia
a mailbox covered in horseshoes
a mountain pond
a dead rattlesnake as we re-entered the paved road
Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
The lilies are gorgeous. You have so many varieties growing wild. We just have orange Turks Heads!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzi, thanks, been years since I saw a tiger lily, we just got 1/2 an inch of rain yesterday, there will be more blooming this week. Joe Pye weed is just about ready
Deletemaybe this is a turk's head, in California they were tiger lilies so just thought that's what this was ?
DeleteGreat little drive and capture of local flora...and the only good kind of rattlesnake!
ReplyDeleteHi Barb, thanks, it is beautiful on the back dirt forest service roads, forgot to say we saw a pair of pileated woodpeckers fly by too quick to get a photo.
DeleteThe mailbox is fun. Probably heavy as the dickens. All the rain this year has kept our flora shiny and green.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne, thanks, of course the mailbox was for a horse farm, yes all is shiny and green here too; just had half an inch yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your walk in the woods. Beautiful photos. The poison ivy seems to be growing everywhere here this year. We have lots of it to eradicate in our yard.
ReplyDeleteHi Michele, thanks, when I was a kid in Maryland I got poison ivy really bad so I am trying to stay clear, it was growing right up to the road everywhere so I had to be careful where I stepped and put my hands taking the photos.
ReplyDeleteThose orange mushrooms look like girolles (also called chanterelles). They sell them where I live and they are deliiicious. But I'd want to check with a pharmacist or someone who goes mushroom hunting before actually tasting anything found in the wild!
ReplyDeleteHi Studio Khnoum, thanks, well I won't hunt mushrooms in the wild because I know there are too many poisonous ones.
DeleteAll the luck will run out of the horseshoes on that letterbox. What were they thinking?
ReplyDeleteLove the plants and the funghi. That looks like a v big snake.
Hi Sue, thanks, I have heard of that saying about horseshoes; yeah Gary said it was a young one, the old rattlesnakes are really fat in the middle
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the only good snake is a dead snake. I hate, hate, hate snakes!!
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot to be inspired by there, Linda (other than the snake).. Get that clay out! :)..
Hi Lee, thanks so much, all snakes are good, if we didn't have them we'd be over run with rodents. Ha. lots of inspiration for sure.
