Maple Resist & Lots Drying

Yesterday I made two more maple resist bowls, a lobster colored one and a brown one. I have some touch up to do on the brown one when it's dryer.

I've just about run out of wall board and shelf space to dry work.

Bowls and basket trays are stacked on the floor.

More bowls are on the counter.

More work is on the drying racks.

Even more work on the shelves below.

 A few test tiles.

 No surface is left uncovered.

Even the entry shelf is full.

A plate stowed under a shelf. Tomorrow I work at the gallery; afterwards I am hope to load the kiln. Thunderstorms are predicted all week; I may have to get up in the middle of the night to catch a weather proof window. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Is it all going to fit in the one load?
Good luck. It must always be exciting - and a bit nerve-wracking as well.

  2. Hi Sue, thanks no I don't think so, but some isn't dry so that's drying while I fire the earlier stuff.

  4. Oh wonderful fun...a studio full of pieces waiting to finish...and at different stages too. Those leaf platters look great!

  5. When I do my Maple leaf resist pots I use leaves I’ve cut out from newspaper. It just feels nicer for the trees. Do you do that too?

    1. Hi Lori, thanks you are right it's nicer for the tree, but I find the real leaf impression is so much better than my cut- outs, but I do respect the trees and only cut from the ones that are encroaching on the driveway or road and would otherwise be trimmed. and I also make then so infrequently that it doesn't seem to make a difference. Also I make sure I make a clean cut and don't strip the bark or otherwise injury the tree. I alsol reuse the leaves over and over again.

    1. Hi Gigi, thanks, for several months I was in a bit of a slump which I don't like to talk about but so far things are looking up for me and my pottery but it is always an uphill battle for most everything we need to survive. in today's world.

  7. You have been very productive! We have had a lot of storms too. Our bisque kiln was interrupted by short power outage the other night.

  8. Hi Michele, thanks, I am afraid to run my kiln when storms are predicted. I keep it unplugged unless I am using it. I will see if I can fit a bisque in. Now I know I cant' get a bisque and a glaze before Saturday since we had storms last night and then a fell asleep anyway.Ha.
