At the last market a woman walked into my booth and noticed my trays. She picked out one with a pale green glaze. Then she picked out one of my ribbon vessels and placed it on the tray.
She declared the bowl was for gravy. Who was I to argue. Was it biscuits and gravy she was thinking of? She even said she'd just given me a new marketing angle. I now have several trays and bowls drying with plans for glazing them with the same glaze. Perhaps the tray could hold eggs and the bowl a fruit cup. I am sure there are many more possibilities. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
This is a good one! Isn't it nice when a customer gives something positive rather than asking for work in a style or glaze you don't do?
ReplyDeleteHi Suzi, thanks, yes very nice indeed, she was being creative in my booth, ha.
DeleteI remember laughing with a group of fellow artists one night: more money in makimg what you sell than selling what you make.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne, thanks, it might be too early in the morning for me, lol. ha. oh isn't that the truth
DeleteGood idea, and a customer with ideas is always welcome!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, I couldn't believe and suggesting the marketing too. ha.
DeleteSounds good. Maybe, you should try a darker glaze so the food stands out better. Red, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteHi Gigi, thanks, I do have a nice red glaze I intend to make them in various colors, maybe folks can mix and match.
DeleteI love that she looked at your work and saw one thing, and I love even more the fact that others will see her gravy boat as something entirely different...
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, thanks, creative minds are everywhere even in customers.
DeleteIt would make a great dip bowl and tray as far as I'm concerned - with Thanksgiving and Christmas both rapidly approaching....they'd be very handy when entertaining guests. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lee, thanks, yes I used to make these trays in similar patterns with different colors and had folks buy them in all different colors to use at a party so everyone would know which plate was theirs. Ha.
DeleteYup, they just go well together.
ReplyDeleteHi Lori, thanks, customers have the best ideas, thinking outside the box. Ha.
DeleteI love it when customers give me ideas, so many times I find them picking something up and saying: What's this for? :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy, thanks, oh I get the 'what is that for' a lot, too, lol, sometimes I hate to answer that question because I may choose the answer they weren't looking for but then again do I say, can you guess, or what would you use it for? sometimes it's a guessing game
