Half an hour later I was at the computer down stairs and noticed something out of the corner of my eye. It was a brown recluse spider which I thought we had vacuumed up several weeks ago. The brown recluse has a fiddle shape on it's back and six eyes instead of eight. Since I'd already woke Gary up with my screams and had him leave the vacuum cleaner outside after vacuuming up the black widow, I decided to try and spray the spider.
I had so much excitement I forgot all about white rabbit. A white yucca bloom will have to do this morning. I noticed the blossoms on the yucca started to droop and I thought I was watering them too much.
It turns out they droop right before the blossoms open.
I can't detect any fragrance nor have I seen any pollinators at the blossoms. I'll have to check again today. I notice the inside is completely white maybe they don't have pollen. Oh I just read that the yucca is pollinated by a moth. I'll keep a close eye out and hope to see them. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
Two dangerous spiders in one day... I hope that's the end of your spider adventures for a very long time!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Michele, thanks, I am not walking around without my shoes on any more and I am shaking out my shoes before I put them on, both spiders were particularly large.
DeleteI am the dealer with spiders here. I escort them outside. Including the venomous ones. Himself would rather drown them in spray. Any spray.
ReplyDeleteLove your yucca.
Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, I usually escort them out on the end of a broom but both of these weren't having it and the brown recluse was particularly fast and if he saw any movement he ran behind the desk.
DeleteNot a fan of spiders, ever! Two bad ones within hours of each other would leave me totally freaked!
ReplyDeleteHares and rabbits to you!
Hi Suzi, thanks, I don't mind most spiders but these two were much too much for me. oh I keep feeling things tickling my leg, mostly imagination but still and all. ugh

ReplyDeleteDon't care for spiders either. And with the cats in the house, usually don't see any critters except for an occasional unlucky gecko that the cats have cornered.
ReplyDeletethat black widow spider is I think related to our Red Back Spider which perhaps won't kill you but can make you very sick... I give spiders a chance to be taken outside but if not I'm afraid they get squished with a fly swatter.
