Luncheon Plates and Disaster Preparations

Here are two luncheon plates from this firing. These are about 7 x 10 inches. The texture in the bottom is made with small bisque stamps. One woman at the market wondered if they were buttons remarking she had a collection of her grandmother's antique buttons. Sometimes I get the best ideas from my customers.

This size is a really good seller. I plan to make as many as I can this week. I was just thinking I should make cup of soup bowls to go with these. Pinched or handbuilt? Hum, we shall see. A person could have half a sandwich and a cup of soup using these a a small bowl.

Our electric finally came on after several spurts and starts. When you lose your electricity you come to appreciate having it even more. You also realize you should prepare for not having it. How can I cook? How can I keep warm or cool? How can I see in the dark? We always have a supply of essentials like canned goods, essentials, and water but we've also stocked up on batteries, lanterns, and brought our camp stove upstairs to cook on if need be.

We are lucky enough to still have the generator we had in Florida but never had it wired up to this house. If we can see our way clear financially we'll try to get that done before the dead of winter. Just as Gary got the refrigerator connected to the generator, the electricity went back on, but you never know how long it might be without and spoiled food would be a tremendous loss and cost. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Glad you have power restored. I had a flashlight that I was going to depend on, only I never lost power. When I picked up the flashlight I discovered I'd taken the old (5 years old!) batteries out and never replaced them. (Glad I had a candle available also!)

    1. Hi Barbara, thanks, with winter coming on we realized that we better get prepared in advance, Gary went to the store and lots of batteries were out of stock as well as lanterns and water.

  2. Oh yes, electricity (and running water) are things we don't think about - until we don't have them anymore. Luxuries which we take for granted.
