Every day this week I've heard this beautiful two note call from a bird in the forest surrounding my home. I finally figured out it's the call of the Black Capped Chickadee. I am amazed this beautiful piercing call comes from such a small bird. The chickadee eats mostly caterpillars but will eat seeds and berries in winter and often uses a cache to store food. So glad to have a chickadee for a neighbor.
Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
He's a cutie. We've got Carolina Chickadees too, chickadee-dee-dee is their call.
ReplyDeleteI love chickadees. Cheeky little fellows; walk around my feet to get seeds on the porch.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne, thanks, with Barney here I can't feed the birds he's too good of a hunter, but how lucky you are to have them walking around your feet.
DeleteWhat a little charmer. Fascinating call too.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, thanks, yes I love their call, they most often just use that two note call and it is so loud, perhaps because we live against a hillside and it might echo back to me.
Deletea pretty little fellow, thanks for letting us hear his call
ReplyDeleteHi Anna, thanks, I had to listen to a lot of bird calls before I figured out which bird was making that call, lol.
