The older we get the less tolerant we are of the cold. We've provided a rope basket in the upper and middle closet with a soft towel in the bottom of each for our cat Barney. He likes sleeping in them to keep warm. Maybe I'll get him a down pillow to set in the bottom. Meanwhile Gary and I are cooped up in the house; although yesterday it got up to 45 F and today is supposed to get up to 47 F.
Much of the country is in a deep freeze and we are no exception. If it wasn't so cold we'd take a drive in the country. This winter we'll use up our propane heat because the heat pump isn't as efficient when the temperature dips below freezing. We can't complain though because we have a home; I can't imagine what it is like for a homeless person. The other day we got a reverse call saying a couple of church's were open as shelters from the cold. Would a homeless person have a phone? This morning I read a headline "dog found dead on front porch frozen solid". Sometimes I wish I didn't see certain headlines. Hopefully folks remember to keep their pets warm. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
I just grateful I woke up this morning...myself. Another day has been given to me to do what I will with it. Joy!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, amen to that, same here.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Barney has a warm comfy spot. Our cats stay on their quilts by the Aga, on the chairs by the fireplace, or wrapped in warm afgans on our bed. They are spoiled. The outside ferals have either the front enclosed bed on the porch or the chairs under the heat lamp on the back porch. Even the little possum was under the heat lamp the other day.
ReplyDeleteHere at least many homeless people do have phones. They need them to contact income support.
ReplyDeleteLove Barney scrunched up and cozy, and hope that you can stay warm and safe.
Hi Rian, thanks, I can't believe the little possum was there too, how cute, Good for you for providing for them in this cold weather.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're taking good care of Barney!
ReplyDeleteIn my younger years I was homeless and almost died, which I posted about, but when I reached out for help, most people didn't give a sh*t!
I wish you and yours much happiness in the year of 2018!
Hi Lon, thanks, so glad you made it; near death experiences are life changing, many folks say they are generous and many times they are but often when dealing with an individual, some folks forget their supposed moral code. The world seems more and more like most folks don't care about anyone any longer, so sad and isolating things have gotten.
