The lemon cucumber harvest this week.
This is from two plants, very prolific.
Five are missing because I sent Gary to harvest
earlier in the week and he picked tiny green ones.
He said, "You didn't tell me they had to be yellow"
Hello, they are lemon cucumbers.
Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.

Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
Do they taste lemony also, or just have the shape?
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, no they taste just like a cucumber but are slightly milder than the long green ones.
ReplyDeleteYep! As I said previously, we call them "apple cucumbers" down this way. We used to have them often when we were kids. I never see them around nowadays. I love them.

Small 3” oval fruit are a bright, creamy white, about the size of a small apple; sweet, mild and very tender. This variety has become almost extinct in America after being introduced here from Australia around the year 1930 from Arthur Yates and Co. But this type of cucumber is likely to have originated in China. The small fruit are so tender you can eat them skin and all."
Hi Lee, thanks, apple cucumbers, ha, the skin is definitely thin compared to the green ones. you could grow them, they are so easy but allow a large area for the vines, they are traveling a foot a day in every direction. yikes
ReplyDeleteVery cute about Gary harvesting your lemon cucumbers. Our logic is not their logic at times :) I've never heard of lemon cucumbers or seen them for that matter. Maybe I need to keep my eyes open next time I go to the store.
ReplyDeleteHi Denise, thanks, I got them at home depot rooted by Bonnie Farms.
DeleteGreat crop, though I am not a cucumber fan (unless they are pickled).
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, thanks, these are mild skinned compared to the green skin variety.
DeleteI've never seen those before, Linda. Will have to keep an eye out for them.
ReplyDeleteHi Rian, thanks, I like growing the varieties you can't get at the grocery store.
