Yikes a Bear !

Last night our neighbor's dog was barking around midnight. I usually turn the exterior lights on to scare whichever critter is out there away. But I was tired and didn't get out of bed. This morning we discovered a bear knocked over our trash can and dragged the only bag of trash out to the upper level. There are bite marks in the outside of the trash can everywhere. Big bite marks, but no scratches. The bears we have in this area are  Black Bear. Click the photo source for links to more information about black bear.
We've put a lot of uneaten wet cat food in there since Bonkers doesn't always eat it all and the aroma must have attracted the bear. There are bear footprints up and down the exterior stairs. We'll have to make new arrangements on where to store our garbage. We've lived here for five years with no problem, but now that a bear has discovered our location, they may come back. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

    1. Hi Rian, thanks, we are adjacent the Chattahoochee National Forest so nearby a wilderness area and bear can apparently smell for great distances so they occasinally wonder into populated areas.

    1. Hi Laurie, thanks, one day during the middle of the day a young bear wandered into a grocery store downtown, now when I say downtown, it's a tiny podunk town. The picture was in the local newspaper, they just shewed the bear out the door. We routinely get possum and raccoons and can hear coyotes in the distance and a coyote got two different cats we had. so our new cat will be only indoors.

  3. They are big fellas! I wouldn't like to meet up with one of them in the dark...or in the daylight, for that matter!

There have been a lot of clips on the news bulletins of late of wandering bears, wandering where they shouldn't be wandering. The other day, one ended up in the hotel where "The Shining" was filmed.

  4. Hi Lee, thanks, as the human population grows to unsustainable numbers the animals are driven to desperation and feats of survival
