Looking Back - Earth Woman 2009
Recently I've been looking back, getting inspired, and reviewing what I've learned from previous work. Above is a wall mask I made in 2009 which I called Earth Woman. The mask seems more unisex or perhaps hermaphrodite, fitting in today's culture. Amazingly the tree branch appendages didn't break. One thing I don't like is the handing mechanism wire is visible. That's something I wouldn't do now. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

I like the way the tree and face interact. It’s fun to go back and draw inspiration from past work.
ReplyDeleteHi Suzi, thanks, I am glad I started a blog back then to document my travels in clay.
DeleteYes, it's always good to learn, sometimes from others, and if we're honest, from ourselves too. Have a great 2019!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, sometimes I think I made better work when I first started out. lol
DeleteEarthwoman looks a tad sad. Which given the way we treat our planet is entirely appropriate.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, thanks, I saw here as sleeping like in winter, although I guess if it were winter the tree wouldn't have any leaves. Yes much destruction to our planet for sure.
DeleteSome kind of woven "material" replicating vegetation would work as the hanging material.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee, thanks, what a good idea something to think about for future pieces, this one is long gone.
Deletelooking back and reflecting is a good thing to do... all the best for 2019
