Turkey Meatballs

When I get ground turkey I usually make turkey patties. This time I decided to make meatballs.  Preheat oven to 400 F. Place a pound or pound and a half of 85 % lean ground turkey in a bowl. Add one egg lightly beaten. Add 3 tablespoons of  ketchup or BBQ sauce. I used the BBQ sauce. Add an eighth cup of shredded parmesan cheese. Add 1/8 of an onion. (I pre[sauteed the onion because Gary can't handle raw or nearly raw onions). Add 2 tablespoons of dried parsley flakes, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of pepper, ! teaspoon of oregano or Italian spice. Stir till mixed. Then add breadcrumbs till mixture holds together.
Form one to one and a half inch sized balls and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. I learned to use parchment paper from watching cooking shows.
Bake for 15 minutes and serve. This meal is on the table in less than half an hour. We both thought the meatballs were delicious. They were very moist, not dry at all. You could also add these to your favorite spaghetti sauce. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. zing! that's the sound of deja vu here and there. Yesterday's lunch was Sweedish Meatballs. My friend Mary said, did you know where Sweedish Meatballs came from? I of course said Sweeden. She said no, they're from Turkey. I said Huh? She said, yes, that was a question on Jeopardy once. Then we laughed and said, are they made out of turkey meat? And still couldn't figure it out so Steve said, This sounds like a fowl topic to me. (We all groaned and left it there.)

  2. I don't think I have ever seen ground turkey for sale here. Turkey really only appears at Christmas here.

    1. Hi Sue, thanks, guess we are lucky, it's a staple in our grocery store here all year long and turkey parts, like the breast and thighs. I made turkey marsala with the breasts pounding them thin.
