We got a new (to us) dining table and chairs at Habitat for Humanity. We donated our previous one to the animal shelter thrift store. Since we got the new table Bonkers, our cat, has been rolling around on the seats and playing with the spindles of the Windsor style chair back.
Gary was sitting and reading the newspaper when all of a sudden he saw that Bonkers somehow got his head between the end spindle and couldn't get it out. Problem was Bonkers was pulling up and becoming frantic making choking noises. He was in danger of strangling himself. The space between the spindles gets narrower as it goes up. Gary pushed Bonkers head down and turned it and he was able to get him out between the spindles.
We consider it a lucky stroke that Gary was there when this happened. All we could think of was: what if that happened when we weren't home? We shudder at that thought. So temporarily we have taped off the offending spindles on all of the chairs. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
So glad you were home to avert disaster. Have to say that our chairs have spindles too... but luckily we have never encountered that problem.
ReplyDeleteHi Rian, thanks, Bonkers is now in his terrible twos, running all over the place and getting into lots of trouble, lol
DeleteI am very grateful you were home.
ReplyDeleteLove the cartoon as well.
Hi Sue, thanks, so glad Gary saved him, isn't it true about the nine lives.
DeleteGood to hear about saving the cat...it must have been scary.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, I was shocked that he could fit his head in that tight space, but somehow he did. Glad we discovered it when we were here.
DeleteOh! Dear! Thank goodness Gary was there at the time! I hate to think what could have happened...as I am sure both of you do!
ReplyDeletePoor Bonkers. Hopefully, he won't try that again...that his memory serves him well. Give him a cuddle for me. :)
Hi Lee, thanks, I am not sure Bonkers will remember and it's too big a risk that he might not. He routinely gets on the loft railing and has fallen down to the middle level yet he still keeps getting on the railing. Ugh. Bonkers also likes to place hide and seek and tag, only cat I've ever had that does that.
DeleteI understand, Linda. LKike you, I'd be on the alert, and on guard against something like that re-occurring. My two, when they were younger, played silly games, too. They turned 17 years of age back in November, so like me, their days of tearing around like out of control hooligans are in the past! :)
DeleteI posted a recipe for panettone in my response to your response in my blog. It's not the exact recipe I used way back when...but close enough to...
Hi Lee, thanks, 17 is a ripe old age for your cats, Bonkers keeps us active that's for sure; thanks for the recipe.
DeleteAfter all my years of having felines I am stil amazed at the trouble they can get into. So very glad that Gary was there to do the rescue.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you could make some slip covers for the chair backs to cover the chair backs.
Hi Suzi, thanks, oh that is a good idea to make the slip covers, we thought of the padded cushions for the bottoms too. Only thing they usually have strings to tie them with and he loves to chew on strings. He also likes to get under covers so I am afraid he'd try to get under a slip cover too. ugh
DeleteI used Velcro spot fasteners between the slats for my friend’s covers.
DeleteHi Suzi, thanks, oh I have some of those somewhere around here, will try that out, thanks so much.
DeleteOh my goodness, that must have been very scary. So glad it had a happy ending.
ReplyDeleteHi Denise, thanks, very scary indeed, when we hear a noise in the other room we always have to get up and see what he is doing.
