Blueberry Time

It's blueberry time, our blueberries are coming into their own. They're producing at least three cups of blueberries a day. We have five plants and they have been growing for six years. Last fall we re-mulched the blueberries with pine needle mulch. We also fertilized them with compost and slow release fertilizer. They always bloom early and I wonder if the blossoms will be destroyed. They must be very hardy because they always produce. They're up against the house and facing south which probably helps.

I plan to make a blueberry clafoutis this week. I find Julia Child's recipe to be the best method to make a clafoutis. I've already frozen quite a few containers of blueberries.

  1. Love blueberries... especially the big fat ones! I tend to freeze them and then either eat them as is (frozen) or make a blueberry custard pie. I will have to check out Julia Child's blueberry clafoutis! Thanks, Linda

    1. Hi Lee, thanks, I wasn't sure but they ripen a bit more if left at room temperature for a day; can't leave them out of the cabinet though because Bonkers likes round things to bat around the house.
