Turnip Gratin

Turnip Gratin

This turnips dish is totally decadent.
Use a mandoline to slice the turnips and onions.
Use the vegetable grabber tool so you don't cut your hand.
Don't omit that step, trust me on that.

2 medium turnips sliced very thin on a mandolin
1 red onion sliced very thin on a mandolin
2 cups of gruyere or smoked cheese grated
1 cup heavy cream
1 tbs rubbed sage
salt and pepper to taste

Oil the bottom and sides of an 8x8 glass baking dish.
Layer the turnip slices and top with the sliced onions.
Add the grated cheese, then drizzle with 1/3 of the cream.
Sprinkle with 1/3 of seasonings.
Start over and do the same with another layer,
then one more layer. Top with a layer of cheese.
Place gratin on a baking sheet in case of over runs.
Bake at 325 F for one hour, watch closely so it doesn't burn.
You know turnips are good for you, so use them.
This is a complete meal and very satisfying.
It doesn't always have to be potato gratin.
Now lets talk about rutabagas, stay tuned.
Enjoy !
