House Wren

The other day a house wren was serenading me
from the top of the BBQ canopy.
He wasn't fearful and kept singing and singing.
He was so close I could see his throat moving as he sang.
Today I decided to look up their habits.
Wrens won't go to bird feeders but catch flying insects instead.
I learned wrens are the only bird who prefer to nest
in a free hanging bird house. They don't like
bird houses attached to a post or a tree.
We happen to have a bird house a friend made for us
many years ago and they nest in it every year.
We have it hanging under the eaves of the back porch.
We're so lucky to have bird friends hanging around.
