Finally my new kiln has arrived. It's a Skutt 1222. I ordered the kiln from
Daven's Ceramic Center in Atlanta and two guys from there came and set it up for us. We both have rotator cuff problems and bad backs so it was worth it to have them set it up. This kiln is four inches deeper than my previous kiln which will allow me to fire some taller pieces.
I set to work putting kiln wash on my new kiln shelves. These shelves are corelite and are very light weight which makes loading and unloading the kiln much easier on me. It's been raining with thunder and lightening so I'll have to wait to do the first test firing till later in the week. Skutt recommends firing the kiln with kiln furniture and nothing else for the first firing to burn out any residual impurities left from the manufacturing process. Then I'll be set to fire up some work. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
