Deep in the woods in front of our home I spied something pink. I finally hiked down there to see what it was. It's a magenta rose
azalea or rhododendron. I never know which is which. I should have picked a leaf and examined it, too late now.
I kept catching glimpses of the hidden gem and decided to check it out.
Above you can see our home for perspective on just how steep the hill is. Oh I told you about the new roof but I can't seem to get a good photo of it so this will have to do. I'm glad I wasn't the one putting it on. One of the guys dropped his tape measure and it rolled all the way down the hill even past this point. That's how steep the hill is.
And there is Gary waiting for me over by the driveway just in case I need help climbing out. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
Too early for rhododendrons, I think. But it looks like a hybrid azalea with it's gorgeous curvy edges! How great that it sparked up this early!

DeleteI think it's an azalea, too. Beautiful; I love them. Never been successful at having them. Look at the pitch of that hill. Wow!
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne, thanks, they need acid soil and filtered light and not too high summer temps I think. That hill is very hard to walk on, luckily we have a paved driveway. Ha.

ReplyDeleteVoting for an azalea here too. I have troubles with them, though my sister in law grows them superbly. In the interests of no longer being a plant killer I have stopped trying.

DeleteI find something magical about finding flowers in the woods. We have several mountain laurels and swamp azaleas out in our woods.
