Today, June 1st, is opening day at the Union County Farmers Market. Once again we'll be in booth number 9 from 7 am to 1 pm showing and selling our handmade pottery. There's a new entrance to the market directly off Highway 76 into the market at the light. NOTE: covered bridge height limit is 10 feet 6 inches, if your vehicle is over that height, please use the road adjacent Home Depot..
We have a surprise vegetable to showcase today, grown organically. Home grown kohlrabi. The bulb grows above the soil. This unique vegetable is a vibrant addition to any cooking application.
Kohlrabi may be eaten fresh, baked, stewed, fried and so many other ways.
Meanwhile our cilantro is going to seed and is flowering now. Perhaps I'll cut a few sprigs to place in some vases. I picked a few and brought them into the house and Gary said something smells like cilantro. Yes, it's a cilantro bouquet.
Spanish tarragon is blooming brightly and is a treat to use in salads, soups, and omelets. Hope to see you at the market. White rabbit to you all. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
Hope you have a good "first market" fist of the month day!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, it was a average first day but got some great vegetables and visited with lots of folks
DeleteI hope your market day is hugely successful.
ReplyDeleteI really dislike cilantro leaf and its flavour and scent. I very happily use the seeds, but I find the leaf awful.
Hi Sue, thanks, it's an acquired taste I guess.
DeleteI've never eaten Kohlrabi, Linda. What does it taste like?
ReplyDeleteHi Rians, thanks, it's a bit like cabbage but it is sweeter. you can grate it just like cabbage for cole slaw.
Deleteyour "handmade pottery" look great....
ReplyDeleteHope, you are successful to sell what you bring to farmer market.
