Oaklawn Race Track, Hot Springs, AR

In the mid 90s I was working as a real estate agent at Century 21 in Hot Springs, AR. Our office was on Central Avenue quite close to Oaklawn Race Track (now it's called Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort). One day I was standing in the broker's office, He had a window facing Central Avenue. All of a sudden I saw a horse running down the middle of the avenue without a rider. Apparently one of the race horses had escaped and just took off running down the street.

At first I didn't believe my eyes because it just seemed unbelievable that a horse had gotten away from it's rider and then escaped the racetrack. But as my boss and I ran to the window, it was indeed a race horse running down the middle of the street. Eventually the horse was captured unharmed and the excitement of that day is now just a memory. I tried to find an article about the horse but I guess it was too long ago to be on the internet. Photos are borrowed from the net about other horses without riders running down a street or highway. Sometimes life is more surreal than science fiction.
