Ribbon Wall Tile

Here's a first attempt at a ribbon wall tile utilizing my signature ribbon construction. Thankfully it made it through both firings. Wish I'd made the stylized flowers with a deeper more contrasting color. The piece is thicker and heavier than I'd like it to be. The piece is about 8 x 9 inches and has a one inch frame work behind it with holes to string wire to hang it on the wall.

With these explorations my work continues to grow and evolve. I document them here for my pottery journal. I'm working behind the scenes, striving to create what is in my mind's eye. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. What an interesting way to use your unique ribbons. You have infinite possibilities ahead. January and February are good times to explore new ideas and get through the winter doldrums, although your winters are very different from mine.

  2. Hi Suzi, thanks, yes winter, so far we are having a mild fall, but last winter was rather brutal for here and the winter before, we shall see about this winter, I have four different clays to test this winter and also some other glazes, but have a bunch of work to get ready so I can fire two commissions, slow but steady; looking forward to the winter doldrums, I don't envy you your winter's that's for sure. I couldn't shovel snow and survive any longer.

  3. Yes, it is interesting. Do you have ideas about how you’re going to make it lighter?

  4. Hi Lori, thanks, ok, two comments of "interesting" ha. I'm going to make the pieces thinner and I don't like the stylized flowers, changing up the wholel thing. Also I have a framework on the reverse which I can reduce the depth of, should lighten the whole piece, but make it more difficult to handle and fire, we shall see.

  5. How exciting to watch your work evolve. I suspect you will never be finished learning and progressing. Which is exciting.

  6. Okay, I'll add the third "interesting". Ha Ha. I like the stylized flowers, and I like the subtle colors of the whole thing. I know you will figure out the weight issue, and tweak the whole thing more to your liking. That's what I mean when I say interesting, since I am not a potter, I find it very interesting how you process and work things out. I guess we all do that with whatever art techniques we labor in.
