Eliminating Fairy Lights & Tannin Spots

You might recall on the last t shirt
there were what is called fairy lights
which look like a halo and dark tannin spots
at the end of the dogwood leaves.
Now I want to try and eliminate them.

Here is my pile of leaves gathered before rain storm expected.

Here I have cut the leaves off the stems ready to process.
My thinking is to singe the end of each leaf to prevent
the tannin in the stem from leaking out causing
the fairy lights and tannin spots.
I'll hold each leaf to a candle flame.
